Arnold’s Tile Ltd. still sells tiles, of course… more tiles than ever in fact. And in the firm’s newly redesigned showrooms at One Mill Reach Lane, Pembroke, customers can browse among a veritable cornucopia of highly decorative tiling. The days of the white square tile are numbered, at least in Bermuda.
“Bermudians are great travelers, and they have become sophisticated buyers of home improvement and repair products,” says Colin Hassell, General Manager.
A trip through the showrooms at One Mill Reach Lane, you’ll discover that they have undergone a dramatic transformation. Arnold's Tile Ltd. has a policy of continual product development and is always adding new tiles, new designs and new products. Our new upstairs showrooms provide a much broader spectrum and selection that will allow customers to view an even greater number of choices of ceramic, marble, porcelain and glass tiles then ever before. Similarly downstairs, a clever system of racks and drawers allow people to see decorative wall and floor tiles laid out in sufficient quantity to give a really good idea of what a tiled area might look like.
Arnold’s Tile Ltd. has designed and printed its very own 128-page full colour catalogue and it’s FREE to all. “Some of our customers say that they would like time to think about changes to their homes, or to be able to discuss the numerous possibilities with their spouse or children.” “Now that we have a catalogue, people can sit down in the quiet of their homes and consider which model suits them best,” says Mr. Hassell. Alternatively, customers may borrow actual samples or sample boards so that they can see and experience the products before they make their decision for their project.
Mr. James Arnold, the owner, explained, “Arnold’s Tile Ltd. is a supplier, and as such have identified trusted installers for our ceramic products.” “We decided to concentrate on what we do best, and that’s distribution.” Mr. Arnold says, “We have formed a strong alliance with overseas suppliers in Europe, South America, Canada and the USA, which enable us to keep our delivery lead time short.”
The focus on infrastructure at Arnold’s Tile Ltd. extends to a computer system that lets customers see what is in stock, pricing and delivery times for items to be ordered. “When we tell a customer that products will be available on a certain date, we mean it,” Mr. Arnolds says, “We post the shipping schedules at each point of sale, so that customers understand when they can expect the goods they are ordering.” “Information is key to our clients, combined with reliable service and products,” said Mr. Arnold.
Service is more than a word at Arnold’s Tile Ltd. “We have a saying around here,” Mr. Hassell comments, “When we sell it to you, we make every effort to sell it to you right the first time.”
When a sale is finalized, industry-specific software immediately prints out the order and updates the inventory records. Goods that customers have purchased are set to one side so that they cannot be sold again. Arnold’s Tile Ltd. maintains two warehouses, one on-site and Mill Reach Lane, Pembroke and a larger satellite depot at Dockyard.
After almost 25 years in business, Arnold’s Tile Ltd. believes it has learned what customers want and how they need to be treated.
“We are in a competitive business,” Mr. Arnold says. “We know that people will shop around for home improvement products. But we believe that, once they have made their comparisons, they will end up purchasing from Arnold’s Tile Ltd. We have the products, the systems and the service to support what we sell”.
