"ACTUARIES - LET'S FIGURE THEM OUT" November 18th

A morning seminar on actuaries and the crucial role they play helping the (re)insurance industry better analyse related risks. It is being presented by Jennifer Caulder. The seminar will walk through actuarial pricing and reserving examples to give attendees a basic understanding of the actuarial projection process and will include a description of the actuarial profession and role, a description of pricing and reserving processes including data requirements and basic projection methods; a walk through of a generic numerical example; other work that actuaries are involved in including risk transfer analysis, cat modeling, and assistance to underwriting and finance functions; and professional challenges for actuaries.

“STATUTORY FINANCIAL RETURNS & OTHER REGULATORY REQUESTS” November 18th

An afternoon seminar on regulatory requirements in Bermuda is being presented by Judith Howe-Tucker and Leslie Robinson, both Bermuda Monetary Authority Assistant Directors, Insurance Division, Licensing & Authorisation. This seminar will include background information on Bermuda insurance regulation, filing requirements, and guidance on how regulators assess various documents submitted to the Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA) and will touch on some key areas of responsibility within the BMA including: overview of the Insurance Department at the BMA; classes of insurers; how the BMA processes Statutory Financial Returns; common errors that are made on Statutory Financial Returns; S.56 Directions – what they are, when and how they might be used; other common regulatory requests eg: other fixed capital & relevant assets; and current initiatives taking place at the BMA.
